Start of Chapter & Verse literature festival!!!

October 14, 2009

hurrah!

.

First up was Michael Rosen.  What a great guy.  As well as doing his fantastically energetic interactive poems for the kids, he translated live some work by new-to-the-UK children’s writer Gregoire Solotarett.  Pretty scary.

IMGP0539This was my favourite line:

“Loulou apprit egalement a Tom la puer”

What does it mean?  Answers on the back of a postcard please!

.

I will stop writing like I am talking to children soon.

.

Anyway, this has strange resonances with a lot of translation/misunderstanding work I am doing at the moment – including some poems I am producing for an exhibition at the end of the month.  AND some work by Lorena Rivero de Beer that we will be showing on Sunday evening, at the Revolutions in Form show.  Here’s a shot from the  rehearsal yesterday –

IMGP0532Very different material, but syncronisities in form.

.

This is very pleasing stuff for a poet in residence!  I hope to use material from the book ‘Loulou’, which Michael Rosen was translating live this morning, in my own work.

Many thanks for this. One slight prob: you’ve put ‘puer’ instead of ‘peur’. Your French would translate as ‘taught him how to stink’ (!!!).

      Thanks Michael.

      Will fix this now!

I also like the idea of a wolf teaching a rabbit to stink, but it’s just not as sinister is it?
